We’re interested in hearing about your ideas for fundraising spectaculars.
Karma Nirvana started out as a grassroots organisation. We got ourselves known by running exercise classes and community groups in areas of social deprivation. And this is what brought us into direct contact with some of the very first people we helped.
And if we can do it, so can you.
The activity itself doesn’t matter. What matters is that you bring people together for the purpose of raising funds and raising awareness.
You’re a book lover? Start your own book club!
You can do this from home, a community centre, a cheaply-rented room, out in the park or garden (in the summer, of course) or just about anywhere!
We’ll give you free copies of ‘Shame’ and ‘Daughters of Shame’ by our very own Jasvinder Sanghera to get you going, and also suggest other great reads around the subject of honour-based violence. You could run four groups, or 40. It’s up to you.
Maybe you’re an aspiring politician and public speaking is your thing? So deliver a talk on honour-based abuse and forced marriage at university. Or set up a group or a debating society on campus.
Do you enjoy chilling out with friends over a bottle of wine on a Friday evening? Organise a wine-tasting night in your local to fundraise for victims of honour-abuse.
And then there are sponsored swims, runs, silences, bungee jumps, walks, marathons – all sorts really.
The thing is to get people talking.
You should make sure you have certain things covered – will you need help, for instance? Will the local press be interested? Can you invite your MP?
Most importantly – can you make money? Your income should be at least three times more than your costs.
Call us if you need any help, advice, support, material, information or ideas.
Always let us know what you’re doing and make sure you download our fundraising pack for more stellar ideas!
